[ARCHIVED] Town Receives Sidewalk Construction Award for $399,600

The State of Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded the Town of Clinton funding for the construction of a new sidewalk along East Main Street (Route 1). The funding will provide up to $399,600.00 for construction costs through the Local Transportation Capital Improvement Program (LOTCIP), and will allow for the installation of a new sidewalk from just west of the Beach Park Road/Plymouth Court intersection to Meadow Road along the north side of Route 1. The project application was developed by Consultant Town Planner John Guszkowski and First Selectman Christine Goupil to advance the implementation of a border-to-border Route 1 sidewalk based on the Route 1 Corridor Study completed by Fitzgerald & Halliday, Inc. in 2015.

First Selectman Goupil stated: “This funding helps the Town in fulfilling the goal set out in the Town Plan of Conservation and Development to promote “Complete Streets” for a safe pedestrian environment, particularly along this busy commercial corridor. This portion of East Main Street is home to many key retail stores, and has been a safety priority for a long time. Many of our residents with special needs utilize this corridor of East Main Street. A sidewalk will further support their independent living.”

The Town will be responsible for providing the final engineering designs and managing the construction bidding process. The LOTCIP funding will cover 100% of the project construction costs. It is anticipated construction will begin in the Spring of 2020.
