[ARCHIVED] Restrictions Lifted On Town Outdoor Activities

The CT River Area Health District (CRAHD) issued a notice on Thursday, October 23, 2019 that removed the previously established recommendation to restrict outdoor evening activities and events. Based on this new information, the appropriate town and school departments will be working together to create schedules for the remaining Fall outdoor practices, games, and events that will now be allowed to extend beyond dusk.

We appreciate the cooperation of all groups in the past two months in working together to adjust schedules and reduce the risks of the transmission of the EEE virus.

The CT River Area Health District (CRAHD) notice from Scott Martinson, MPH, M.S., R.S., Director of Health:

Based on the latest information from the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, it has been determined that the risk of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) transmission from mosquitoes to humans have been greatly reduced. Although the risk of EEE transmission will not be eliminated until we experience a hard frost, the likelihood of human infection is extremely low.

Based on this information, we are no longer recommending any restrictions on outdoor activities.

Residents should continue to use personal protective measures, including the use of an EPA approved insect repellent, and wearing long sleeves and pants if a significant amount of time is spent outdoors. Residents should also avoid hiking or camping in swampy areas until the first hard frost occurs.

If you have questions, please contact the CT River Area Health District at (860) 661-3300 or Clinton Town Hall at 860-669-9333.
