Carter Hill Road Bridge over the Menunketesuck

      The Carter Hill Road Bridge over the Menunketesuck River has been subject to repeated flooding over a period of years. This bridge is inspected by the Connecticut Department of Transportation every two years.  Recent inspection reports have determined the bridge is now in need of replacement.  As a result of CT-DPOT reports the Town hired DTC an Engineering Consulting firm to study the Carter Hill Road Bridge.  We have provided both the most recent CT-DOT bridge inspection report and DTC’s report confirming the CT-DOT inspection results. 

       As a result of the study performed by DTC, we were able to apply for a grant under the Federal Bridge Program and subsequently were awarded a grant that will pay for 80% of all eligible costs to replace the bridge. The Town is permitted under the grant program to address design considerations to allow the Town to make the bridge blend in with the surrounding area. This will include natural stone details to match as best we can the existing bridge. The Town is requesting the appropriation the design cost for the bridge as part of the referendum to be held May 10th.  In order to qualify for the grant there are stringent procedures and policies that must be followed.   We are currently using DTC to ensure we meet all the requirements to ensure we do not jeopardize the grant.  

    DTC was  appointed the Town Engineers in 2016 after a RFP (request for professional services) process that resulted in multiple response from firm across the area. After an interview process DTC was awarded the work has acted in the capacity of Town Engineering Consultants for over a year.
